DeLaina is dedicated to promoting options in education and to using technology to reach out to students. She taught high school for 13 years, the last two at an online high school in Ohio, where she enjoyed creating new ways to present world languages in a virtual arena. She is passionate about educating and working with youth in general and often remarks that seeing them in action restores her faith in humanity. She holds a BA in French/Spanish Teaching from BYU and an MA in Second Language Acquisition from The Ohio State University. Since returning to Utah in 2006, DeLaina has become involved in her community in a variety of ways, including chairing the Draper City Youth Council, founding two grassroots organizations, and serving on various boards and political committees. She is also a 2009 recipient of the President’s Gold-Level Volunteer Service Award, and frequently encourages others to actively volunteer their time, whether at their local school, or in their community. She is a mother of four and is married to Paul, an Assistant Attorney General.
